Reports in England indicate that Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is preparing a surprise bid for his former player at Chelsea, Mikel Obi.
The Nigeria midfield star has fallen out of favour at Stamford Bridge under new manager Antonio Conte and with Mourinho looking for some midfield solidity at United, The Sun claims he is looking to his former player for answers.
Mikel’s current contract ends at the end of the season and he is unlikely to get a new contract. The 29-year-old is believed to be open to a move away after 11 years at the Bridge.
Mourinho signed him for Chelsea in 2006 after wrestling him from United’s grasp following a bitter tussle. United had claimed to have signed the player before the legendary Portuguese tactician got his way.
This move is a surprise however because Mikel was hardly a favourite of Mourinho during the United boss’ second stint at Stamford Bridge that ended midway into last season.
The Super Eagles captain has yet to make a matchday squad under Conte this season.
