Head coach of Uganda Micho Sredojevic is thrilled by his team’s nomination for the National Team of the Year by CAF and his own nomination for the Coach of the Year gong, saying the Cranes will be inspired by this at the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations finals in Gabon.
The Cranes received their nomination after qualifying for their first AFCON finals in 39 years, while Micho got his for being the coach behind the feat.
(It is the) biggest honour in 16 years I have wholeheartedly been serving African football, a chuffed Micho tweeted.
The Serbian also told the Uganda’s Daliy Monitor: It is a small satisfaction for the madness of sleepless nights and hardworking days garnished with tears, sweat and blood.
We are absolutely motivated for much more, he added.
The East Africans have been drawn against familiar foes Ghana, Egypt and Mali in Group D in Gabon. They open their campaign against the Black Stars on January 17 in Port-Gentil.
The Cranes are up against the Nigerian Women’s team that won the recent AWCON in Cameroon, AFCON-first timers Guinea-Bissau, Congo DR and Senegal.
On his part, Micho is up against coach of the Nigerian Women’s team, Florence Omagbemi, South African Pitso Mosimane who led Mamelodi Sundowns to the Champions League title, Nacer Sandjak who guided Algerians Mo Bejaia to the Confederation Cup final and Congo DR coach Florent Ibenge.
