After waiting a long while to open their club accounts this season, Nigeria forwards Alex Iwobi and Emem Eduok have now scored in successive games, with both emerging winners on Saturday in England and Turkey respectively.
Iwobi, who scored his first goal of the season for Arsenal in a 1:4 thrashing of Ukrainian hosts Zorya in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, capped a 3:1 win for the London giants against Stoke City. The 20-year-old went between two defenders in the area before expertly picking his spot in the 75th minute and ensured Arsenal provisionally took top spot on the table.
Eduok, broke his duck for Kasimpasa last weekend in a 1:2 loss to Istanbul giants Galatasaray, but this time around his goal in the 43rd minute got all three points in a 0:1 win over Godfrey Oboabona’s Rizespor.
The game however ended badly for the former Dolphins FC of Nigeria star, after he was sent off for a second yellow card in the 83rd minute.
Life was harder for Kelechi Iheanacho in England after he started and lasted 58 minutes for Manchester City as they were spanked 4:2 by Ahmed Musa’s Leicester City. Musa however watched the game from the bench.
For the second game since returning from injury, Isaac Success watched his club Watford beat visiting Everton 3:2. Apparently club boss Walter Mazzarri does not want to rush his star signing back into action. Joining Success on the bench was compatriot Odion Ighalo.
In Turkey, midfield grafter Ogenyi Onazi played all 90 minutes for Trabzonspor as the thumped Adanaspor 4:0 in the Superlig.
In Belgium, rising striker Henry Onyekuru made it five goals in his last seven games in all competitions to help his club AS Eupen to a 2:2 draw against visiting Sporting Charleroi. It was the 19-year-old’s eighth goal in 18 league appearances this season.
