List of Referees particicipating in the 2017 African Cup of Nations

The low rating of Nigerian referees on the continent has again been reflected by the absence of a Nigerian center referee in the list for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations released by CAF on its website on Thursday.
There has new been no Nigerian center referee at the continental showpiece since the 2006 finals in Egypt when Emmanuel Imiere made the cut. There was no Nigerian referee at the 2004 tournament in Tunisia, but there was Chukwudi Chukwujekwu in Mali in 2002 and Olaniyan Olufumi in 2000.
There was however a Nigerian, Abel Baba, named as one of the one of the assistant referees. In 2015 another Nigerian Peter Edibe was an assistant referee. Edibe was also at the 2013, 2012, 2010, and 2008 finals also an assistant referee.
