Senegal star Sadio Mane was the hero for Liverpool on Monday night as he scored in stoppage time to ensure a 0:1 victory over hosts Everton in their English Premier League Merseyside derby.
The game had looked all set to end goalless when substitute England striker Daniel Sturridge struck the post and Mane reacted fastest to the rebound to fire home from close range.
It was his ninth goal of the season and it came against a side coached by the man who brought him to the English game, Ronald Koeman. Both were at Southampton before Mane joined Liverpool and Koeman joined Everton.
Liverpool climbed to second place, but remain six points behind leaders Chelsea.
Mane was later to console international teammate Idrissa Gueye who ran the midfield for Everton. Both are expected to be part of the Senegal team at the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon.
