Egypt star Mohamed Salah returned from injury on Saturday night after about three weeks out, but could not stop his club Roma from slipping further behind Italian Serie A leaders Juventus in the title race.
The 24-year-old, who last played for Roma on November 27 when he picked up an ankle problem, was introduced at the start of the second half with Juventus leading 1:0, and that was how the score stayed at the end.
The loss sees Juventus extend their lead to seven points over Roma who are still second on the table.
Three Africans were on the bench for Juventus, including midfielders Kwadwo Asamoah of Ghana and Gabon’s Mario Lemina, as well as Morocco defender Mehdi Benatia.
All four players are expected at the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon.
