Dave Chappelle’s appearance on Saturday Night Live, just days after the American election result, was widely praised by critics.
The comedian kept things remarkably positive, even saying: “I’m gonna wish Donald Trump luck, and I’m going to give him a chance, and we the historically disenfranchised demand that he give us one too.”
However, that was before Trump actually became President. Just in the last two weeks alone, we’ve seen Trump fire the head of the FBI and leak information to the Russians.
According to NBC’s Willie Geist, who attended Chappelle’s New York show at the Robin Hood, the comedian regrets being so nice.
“I was the first guy on TV to say ‘Give Trump a chance,’” he told the audience. “I f***ed up. Sorry.”
Having remained away from the public spotlight for many years, Chappelle SNL performance marked a return to the limelight. The 43-year-old recently crashed Chris Rock’s stand-up performance and released two Netflix comedies.
