One dead, multiple people stabbed in Finnish city of Turku, some attackers may remain on loose

Peoples Digest Online – One person was killed and multiple others were stabbed in the Finnish city of Turku on Friday, and some attackers may remain on the loose. A suspect was taken into custody after being shot in the leg, according to reports.

Witnesses saw three attackers with weapons running through the streets and stabbing people, according to Turun Sanomat.

“It was really horrible,” Kent Svensson of Sweden told CNN. “We were sitting on a terrace just next to the square and this woman just screamed like hell and this guy was standing in front of her with a huge knife just stabbing people.

“There was blood everywhere.”

Video taken at the scene appears to show someone yelling “Allahu Akbar,” but many people believe it is just a bystander imploring people in the Finnish language to get away from the scene.

Five people were injured, and a woman with a stroller was attacked by a man with a large knife, Tabloid Ilta-Sanomat reported. Several people were seen lying on the ground in the central part of the city, according to Finnish broadcaster YLE.

Witnesses said a man was seen carrying a sharp weapon and a baseball bat, the Finnish newspaper Turun Sanomat reported.

City cops are urging people to avoid the Puutori-Market Square area, where the stabbings took place.

Prime Minister Juha Sipila said the government was closely monitoring the situation and will hold an emergency meeting later Friday.
