Eleven firefighters injured while battling Tribeca building fire

Peoples Digest Online – A massive blaze erupted in a Tribeca building Friday, authorities said. The fire started inside the ducts of a restaurant on the ground floor of a five-story building on Murray St. near Church St. around 6:30 p.m., according to the FDNY.

The flames quickly spread upward through the ventilation system to the rest of the building and the roof, Manhattan Borough Commander, Roger Sakowich said.

Medics treated 11 firefighters for minor injuries, he said.

There is believed to be a target range in the basement stored inside but Sakowich said that the fire never reached that part of the building.

Authorities said that nobody was on the upper floors when the flames sparked.
