A British woman has been killed and four others injured after a boat crash in the south of France.

Peoples Digest Online – The young British woman went overboard when her boat struck a warning beacon on the Rhone River in Avignon.

The small shuttle boat was reportedly ferrying passengers between the shore and a large tourist boat when it struck the iron beacon at around 10:45pm last night. Eight other people were on board at the time and four of them were injured – including at least one other Brit, according to Le Dauphine.

The boat was travelling from the island of Barthelasse – where the 20-year-old been dining out with friends at a restaurant.

They were sailing to Avignon after having dinner, the official added.

Barthelasse is France’s largest river island and a popular spot for British tourists visiting the region.
